Institute Relationships with Regulatory AgenciesThe Meat Trade Institute prides itself on decades of experience working with local, state and federal regulatory agencies. Institute President John Calcagno has a long history of dealings with top governmental authorities. John's involvement wth the Institute began 30 years ago after a distinguished career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The to assure that the membership maintains its profitability in the face of a growing regulatory burden. The Institute has a long track record of lobbying on behalf of the industry. Institute members and staff has appeared at Congressional hearings, state regulatory public hearings and local boards representing the needs of Institute members. The Institute regularly holds meetings and seminars designed to enlighten the membership on issues affecting their profitability. Most recently, the Institute held a seminar on HACCP that offered attendees required certification in HACCP readiness. This seminar was held in cooperation with Cornel University (see Meat & Poultry Newsletter for more details on this meeting).
