Institute Relationships with Regulatory Agencies

The Meat Trade Institute prides itself on decades of experience working with local, state and federal regulatory agencies. Institute President John Calcagno has a long history of dealings with top governmental authorities. John's involvement wth the Institute began 30 years ago after a distinguished career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Institute has spent the last 30 years engaged in the process of working with government and industry to assure that the membership maintains its profitability in the face of a growing regulatory burden.

The Institute has a long track record of lobbying on behalf of the industry. Institute members and staff has appeared at Congressional hearings, state regulatory public hearings and local boards representing the needs of Institute members.

Most recently, the Institute held a seminar on HACCP that offered attendees required certification in HACCP readiness. This seminar was held in cooperation with Cornel University (see Meat & Poultry Newsletter for more details on this meeting).
