020403 McDonald's Introduces Chicken Select Strips

April 2, 2002

Oak Brook, IL – From March 29th through April 25th, McDonald's customers coast- to-coast will find a hot new chicken item on the menu - Chicken Select Strips, premium, all-white meat chicken strips served with a choice of Spicy Buffalo or Tangy Honey Mustard dipping sauces. The national roll-out is McDonald's latest entry to its New Tastes Menu offering customers an ongoing rotation of new tastes, variety and value.

“Chicken Select Strips have been a strong hit in test markets. Customers liked the light and crispy coating and the adult-sized portions of the strips,” said Alex Conti, Senior Director, Menu Innovations, McDonald's. “The zesty flavor of the spicy dipping sauces are a perfect combination with the tender, white-meat chicken for a taste that really appeals to adults.”

Offered ala carte in four-piece portions, Chicken Select Strips can also be purchased as part of an Extra Value Meal® with fries and a drink. Additionally, customers can add two Chicken Select Strips to an ala carte order or an Extra Value Meal for just a dollar. “We're giving our customers portion options to fit their appetite and a variety of sauces to suit their tastes,” added Conti. “A choice of two new sauces, customers can select either the Spicy Buffalo or Tangy Honey Mustard Sauce.”

The introduction of Chicken Select Strips will be supported by an advertising campaign featuring national television commercials and magazine advertisements.

Suggested retail pricing for Chicken Select Strips is $2.39 for a four- piece serving. Chicken Select Extra Value Meals are at a recommended price of $3.69. And, you can add two more Chicken Select Strips to either for just a dollar.

McDonald's is the world's largest global foodservice retailer with more than 29,000 restaurants serving nearly 45 million people in 121 countries each day. Approximately 80% of McDonald's restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent local businessmen and women.
