011002 White Castle Announces 25 Year Club Honoree at Home Office

The oldest fast food hamburger chain in the country inducted 40 new members into its "25 Year Club" Thursday, September ember 27 at a banquet in Powell, Ohio. One of these honorees, Will Roper, is a design coordinator in the engineering department at the White Castle home office.

Roper began working for White Castle in PSB, the manufacturing division of the company. On his first day he operated a forklift. "Nothing out of the ordinary happened except for the fact we were working 12 hour days. The first day was long." He says he enjoys the "work atmosphere and employee cooperation -- I enjoy the fact that the company takes care of its team members." His proudest moments are when he travels, he finds people who start conversations about their experiences with White Castle and how they miss them.

The honorees were given "red carpet" treatment for two days during the company's annual meeting, typically the last week of September ember.

The week as a 25 Year Club honoree was topped off with a limousine ride to Wedgewood Golf & Country Club in Powell, Ohio for the awards banquet. Each inductee was honored individually with a gold watch presented to them by company President Bill Ingram. Attendance at the 25 Year Club banquet is limited to new inductees, local active and retired 25 Year Club members, and representatives from the highest management level positions in the company.

White Castle operates more than 350 quick service hamburger restaurants in 11 states. The company was founded in Wichita, Kansas in 1921 and moved its home office in 1934 to the current location at 555 West Goodale Street to Columbus, Ohio.
