010909 Tyson Arranges Emergency Relief Efforts

September 14, 2001

Springdale, AR - In response to tragic attacks on New York City and Washington D.C., and the air disaster in Pennsylvania, Tyson Foods, Inc., America's largest producer of chicken, is making arrangements to donate more than 70,000 pounds (or 350,000 meals) of fully cooked, ready to eat breaded chicken product to feed emergency workers and medical personnel. Tyson is working with its partner in hunger relief efforts, Share Our Strength, to expeditiously get these donations to those who need them. In addition to sending product this week, Tyson team members and volunteers will be at disaster relief feeding sites administered by the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross to cook and distribute additional chicken products. Tyson team members throughout the country have responded to local blood drives in their areas.

Tyson will continue its emergency relief support and assistance through on-going chicken product donations, as well as matching team member donations of cash to relief funds going to the American Red Cross and families of lost fire fighters and law enforcement officers in New York.

“Tyson is committed to supporting rescue efforts across the country in critical times,” said John Tyson, chairman, president and CEO of Tyson Foods. “Even though the residual effects of this tragic event will be felt for a long time, we hope to assist those volunteering their time and efforts by feeding them as they continue to work around the clock to save lives.”

Tyson Foods, Inc., headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas, is the world's largest fully integrated producer, processor and marketer of chicken and chicken-based convenience foods, with 68,000 team members and 7,000 family farmers in more than 100 communities. Tyson has operations in 18 states and 16 countries and exports to 79 countries worldwide.
