010337 Wendy's Same-Store Sales Up 0.9%

Dublin, OH - Wendy's International Inc said that sales rose 0.9% at company- owned U.S. Wendy's restaurants open for least a year, in the face of severe weather and competitors' discounts.

Same-store sales had risen 4.1% in February 2000 and 12.4% in February 1999.

Same-store sales at Tim Hortons bake shops in Canada were up 9.4% and same store sales at Tim Hortons in the United States rose 9.6%.

“Wendy's produced positive sales in February despite the challenge of winter weather conditions that are more severe than a year ago, especially in markets where we have a high concentration of our company stores,” Jack Schuessler, chief executive and president, said. “We also faced discounting programs by our competitors.”
