001230 Another E. Coli Case in Minnesota

December 16, 2000

Minneapolis, MN - Minnesota health officials have confirmed another case of E. coli infection, bringing to at least 28 the number of state residents sickened by a bacteria outbreak linked to ground beef.

The outbreak also has been blamed for illnesses in three people in Wisconsin and one in Iowa.

Cub Foods, part of Supervalu Inc., recalled its fresh ground beef a week ago from stores in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Chicago and Indianapolis after Minnesota Health Department officials traced cases of the food-borne illness to hamburger bought at the supermarket chain.

Cub Foods' supplier American Foods Group Inc. of Green Bay, Wis., announced Monday it was voluntarily recalling 1.1 million pounds of ground beef. It said the beef was shipped in early November under its own brand and the B Bar, Kroger and Sysco brands to Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
