980260 Checkers Offers New Sandwich for a Limited Time; Sirloin Burger Hits the Drive-T

February 24, 1998

Clearwater, FL - Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, Inc. is bringing back a popular product -- the Sirloin Burger. Starting March 2, a number of stores throughout the franchise will have the sandwich on the menu again. New radio and television commercials, which break March 30, describe the product perfectly as "Steak you can eat with your hands."

Checkers recently launched a new campaign with the tagline, "Fresh. Because we just made it." Checkers wants consumers to know that their food is always made fresh on the spot, never pre-made like other quick service restaurants.

"Consumers tell us that Checkers quality ranks among the highest in the industry," said Bob Purple, senior vice president of marketing. "The Sirloin Burger is unique to the segment because of the quality of the meat that is served."

The 100% sirloin patty is placed on a round sesame seed bun and smothered with steak sauce and grilled onions. Also available at point-of-purchase are extra toppings such as lettuce and tomato and double cheese. (Focus group research has revealed that the Sirloin Burger is even better with cheese.)

Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, Inc. is one of the largest double-drive- thru restaurant chains in the United States. Checkers develops, owns, operates and franchises restaurants that offer high-quality food, fast service and everyday value prices. Headquartered in Clearwater, Florida, the company is traded on the Nasdaq stock market under the symbol "CHKR."
