970923 Mcdonald's Plans No National Rollout For Single Version Burger

September 17, 1997

CHICAGO - McDonald's Corp said Wednesday there is no plan to roll out nationally a single version of a hamburger sandwich that some of its stores are offering.

"There is no national rollout pending," said McDonald's spokesman Charles Ebeling.

Some local markets have chosen to offer customers versions of its hamburgers varying the lettuce, tomato, condiments and even weight of the meat.

"However, not more than 10 percent (of franchisees) have some variation of the Quarter Pounder," Ebeling said adding, "We have had various forms before and will in the future."

McDonald's, which has about 13,000 restaurants in the U.S., continues to look at ways to expand and improve its menu offerings and will, "localize offerings where it makes sense," he said.

Earlier this month, McDonald's said it is testing three products -- two hamburger sandwiches and a chicken breast product -- that may at some point be added to menus.
