Cargill Ltd officials and representative of its striking Alberta beef packers' union met after 1,600 workers at the High River processing plant walked off the job July 10.
"It's been three weeks since the dispute began and neither the employees nor the company can win in a lengthy dispute. We've gone back to the bargaining table to see if there's any way we can reach an agreement," Cargill vice president Barb Isman told Reuters.
Cargill Ltd. is a unit of Minneapolis-based Cargill Inc.
Workers have rejected Cargill's offer of a graduated C$1.50 an hour raise over four years.
The United Food and Commercial Workers union sought C$1.95 over three years.
"We're not going to negotiate in the media so any specifics related to what will occur over the next day or so we won't and can't comment on," Isman said.
The plant, one of Canada's largest, usually slaughters 4,000 head of cattle a day.
