060201 South Korea Ends U.S. Beef BanFebruary 18, 2006South Korea has agreed to resume importing U.S. beef after a two-year ban, the Korea Herald said. Seoul, which banned such imports in December 2003 over mad cow concerns, said over the weekend that officials from the two nations agreed that imports of U.S. beef would be boneless and from cattle younger than 30 months of age. "We placed priority on the safety of imported beef, calling for more stringent conditions than those applied before the ban," said Park Hyun-chool, director general of the Agriculture Ministry's livestock bureau.
