050442 Beef Processor Smithfield Considers KansasApril 29, 2005The nation's fifth-largest beef processor is considering southwest Kansas as a site for a new packing plant. The livestock industry newsletter Cattle Buyers Weekly reports that Smithfield Foods has narrowed its search for a new plant to Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. Smithfield said no final decision has been made on whether to build a new plant.
