041012 PETA Protests Kentucky Fried Chicken Practices

October 8, 2004

Fort Smith, AR - Fort Smith drivers who saw a giant chicken crossing the road were actually watching a protest from a national animal-rights group.

A group of protestors from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals set up outside of a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Fort Smith at about noon.

The group claims the company's slaughtering practices are cruel. PETA has been protesting KFC's practices for about two years.

Yum! Brands Inc., which owns the KFC brand and franchises its restaurants, maintains that PETA's claims are false. On its Web site, a company press release says that officials enacted strict rules pertaining to the slaughter process years before the allegations surfaced.
