040134 US & Korea Talk Over Beef ImportsJanuary 25, 2004South Korea's agriculture ministry says a US trade delegation will visit the country this week for talks over Seoul's ban on American beef imports. It will be the second beef talks between the two countries since South Korea suspended US beef imports in early December. The move came after a US cow tested positive for mad cow disease which, if consumed by humans, can cause a variant of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, which has claimed more than 140 lives in Europe.
