031114 Lack of Inspectors Hinders Iowa Plant Production

November 8, 2003

Officials at Iowa Quality Beef in Tama, Iowa say the plant hasn't been able to increase production because it doesn't have enough federal meat inspectors. Officials predicted that 1200 cattle would be processed per day by the end of October. But so far the plant is processing only 950 cattle per day. Officials say if they don't get more meat inspectors, the plant will have to run a longer single shift and operate on Saturdays.
