030722 Tyson Expects Higher 3rd Quarter Earnings

July 10, 2003

Springdale, AR - Tyson Foods Inc., the world's largest meat company, said its third-quarter earnings will be higher than analysts have forecast.

Tyson said it expects to post earnings of between 19 cents and 22 cents per share for the quarter ended June 28. The consensus forecast of five analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call was for earnings of 17 cents per share. The estimates ranged from 15 cents to 37 cents per share.

Tyson shares were up 60 cents to close at $11.80 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Tyson is expected to report its earnings on July 28.

"Recent earnings estimates in the market are materially inconsistent with our knowledge of expected results. Our quarter has ended and accounting work is substantially complete, and I felt it was appropriate at this time to ensure accurate information in the market for all of our shareholders," company chairman and chief executive John Tyson said.
