020513 Company Recalls Frozen Chicken Nuggets

May 4, 2002

Washington - An Iowa-based food company is recalling 20,000 pounds of fully cooked, frozen chicken nuggets because they could cause allergic reactions to people who have a severe sensitivity to milk products, the Agriculture Department said. The nuggets, produced between Dec. 17, 2001, and April 17, were distributed in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Texas, Ohio and Oregon, the department said.

Advance Brands of Orange City, Iowa, voluntarily recalled the products because they were incorrectly labeled and do not show that they contain a milk product, a potential allergen.

"Because of the potential for injury, we want consumers to be aware of the recall," said William Hudnall, acting administrator of the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The recall applies to 12-ounce trays of "Fast Fixin' Hot & Spicy Chicken Breast Nuggets, White Breast Meat, Fully Cooked" bearing an establishment code "P2568" inside the USDA inspection mark. The packages can be identified with a 12-digit date code beginning with one of the following sequences: F1172, F1282, G0013, G0051, G0063, G0174, G0212, or G0252.

Also subject to the recall are other various sized packages of the same product, but these packages do not contain a bar code or a USDA inspection seal, the department said. They contain a sticker, affixed at the retail outlet, indicating the product name, weight and price.

Customers are urged to return the items to the place of purchase.
