020232 WW Johnson Offers Irradiated Ground Beef

February 13, 2002

Minneapolis, MN - WW Johnson Meat Company announced that it is introducing nine new SureBeam-processed fresh ground beef products to the food service market.

WW Johnson's new product line rollout includes a variety of SureBeam- processed Fresh Ground Beef Patties of assorted weights and shapes, as well as SureBeam®-processed Fresh Ground Beef bulk packaged product.

“Since our initial introduction of SureBeam Fresh Ground Beef Patties, our sales have jumped ten fold, “ said Thomas M. Racciatti, WW Johnson Meat Company's president. “We are expanding our processing capabilities, because our customers are very pleased with these products and desire greater variety. In addition to promoting food safety, the SureBeam process gives our customers a better-tasting, longer-lasting fresh ground beef fare -- while eliminating the need to buy and use frozen ground beef in order to have an extended shelf-life.”

Founded in 1946, WW Johnson Meat Company provides ground beef products and patties to the food service industry -- such as hospitals, elderly care organizations, and restaurants -- located throughout the Midwest. SureBeam electron beam technology uses ordinary electricity as its energy source to irradiate and eliminate with ionizing energy harmful bacteria -- such as e. coli, and salmonella -- enhancing the quality of ground beef and extending its shelf life without compromising its taste, texture, or nutritional value.
