020225 Wisconsin Plant Increases Chicken Recall

February 9, 2002

Washington - A Wisconsin food company increased its recall of chicken products from 6,000 pounds to more than 80,000 pounds because undercooked meat may have been sold under another of its brands.

The new product being recalled is "Fully Cooked DICED Chicken Breast Meat WITH RIB MEAT," the Agriculture Department said Friday. Each box bears the case code "10967" and the establishment number "P-161" in the USDA mark of inspection.

The USDA had announced the recall Thursday of "CHIK N ZIPS, Grilled FULLY Cooked Skinless Boneless, Chicken Breast FILLET STRIPS." Each of those boxes bears the case code "5211," a nine-digit date code beginning with the numbers "3471" and the establishment number "P-161" in the USDA mark of inspection.

The manufacturer of both products, Brakebrush Brothers Inc., based in Westfield, Wis., discovered the problem after a customer called to complain.

Both products were produced Dec. 13. The Chik N Zips were distributed nationwide, and the diced chicken breast with rib meat was distributed to a food service distributor in New Jersey.

No illnesses or injuries have been attributed to the chicken products.

Customers with questions can call Brakebrush Brothers at 1-608-296-2121.
