010353 McDonald's to Test Diner Style Outlet

March 16, 2001

New York - McDonald's Corp. will begin experimenting with a diner style outlet when it opens a restaurant in Kokomo, Indiana, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Called “McDonald's with the Diner Inside,” the restaurant combines a traditional McDonald's outlet with a full-sized diner, the paper said.

In the restaurant, customers can order from a menu of 122 items in addition to the traditional McDonald's menu, the company was reported as saying.

If this test is a success, existing McDonald's restaurants could be retrofitted to accommodate a diner, the paper reported.

Patrons will order food from phone-like devices at each table, the paper said.
