000928 Family Sues KFC Over Maggot Claim

September 23, 2000

Anaheim, CA - Kentucky Fried Chicken was certainly not "finger licking good" for the Perez family, who allege that they found maggots in their bucket of chicken.

The family -- three adults and three children -- went to the Anaheim Kentucky Fried Chicken for a meal and are now involved in a lawsuit.

The entire event was caught on home video and includes the family showing the allegedly contaminated bucket of chicken to a Kentucky Fried Chicken employee.

"Go ahead and put that back in the bucket and I'll take it back to the store to show it to the manager," said the KFC employee on the tape.

"We take great pride in providing quality meals to all our customers," a spokesperson at the company's headquarters in Kentucky said.

Joan Montano, the attorney representing the Perez family, wondered about where the alleged maggot problem began.

"Does it happen in the restaurant itself or does it start way back with whoever is supplying their chicken?" Montano asked.

Barring a settlement, this case could be in front of a jury in less than a year.
