July 17, 2000

Dublin, OH - Wendy's International Inc. said same-store sales at its restaurants increased 2.4% in June, which was lower than the 9.5% climb in the same period last year.

Wendy's, the No. 3 U.S. hamburger chain, said same-store sales in the second quarter ended July 2 edged up 2.8% compared to a 8.3% increase in the year-ago period.

The company also said it expects to report second quarter results on Aug. 1 and repeated its goal of 12 to 15% annual earnings growth.

In Canada, the company said its Tim Hortons restaurants reported a 9.7% rise in same-store sales in June versus a 11.5% jump in the same month last year.

“We are especially pleased with the outstanding performance at Tim Hortons, which continues to produce superior results and contribute a greater portion of our revenue and earnings growth,” said Jack Schuessler, chief executive officer and president.
