000359 Gwaltney Foods Recalls Finast Beef Franks

March 23, 2000

Carlisle, PA - Giant Food Stores, Inc. announced that Gwaltney Foods of Smithfield, Virginia, has issued a product recall for Finast Beef Franks. The recalled Finast Beef Franks were distributed through Giant Food Stores in Pennsylvania and Martin's Food Markets in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Northern Virginia.

Gwaltney Foods initiated the product recall when it was determined that some packages labeled as beef franks may actually contain chicken and pork.

The recalled product is in a one-pound package with eight hot dogs per package. The establishment number on the package reads “Est. No. 4341.” The use- by date reads “18 JAJ Use By May 8.” Consumers who have purchased the recalled hot dogs from Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Giant Food Stores, Inc. has instructed its stores to remove the Finast Beef Franks bearing the recalled date code from the shelves immediately.
