991233 Kroger & Hormel Donate 12,000 Holiday Hams

December 20, 1999

Cincinnati, OH - With the help of customers across the country, The Kroger Co. and Hormel Foods announced they will donate nearly gift certificates for nearly 12,000 Hormel CURE 81 hams to non-profit organizations to help feed needy families this holiday season.

The donation, valued at more than $150,000, is based on the volume of qualifying Hormel Foods products purchased by Kroger shoppers throughout the holiday season. Thirteen Kroger divisions that participated in the campaign will receive gift certificates that will be given to various non-profit organizations in each region. The gift certificates are good toward the purchase of Hormel CURE 81 hams in participating stores. The hams will be enough to feed an estimated 350,000 people.

“This promotion with Hormel Foods is a great way for Kroger to give back to the communities which we serve,” said Derrick Penick, group vice president of perishables at Kroger. “It gives Kroger customers a wonderful opportunity to help the less fortunate simply by putting Hormel meat products on their shopping lists.”
