991206 Source of Ohio E-Coli Found

December 1, 1999

Troy, OH - Miami County health officials say they've found the source of an e-coli bacteria outbreak that put 17 people in the hospital. Officials believe there was an infected employee working at the Troy restaurant in the salad preparation area.

Health authorities believe the C-J HighMarks' employee became infected after eating some undercooked meat.

E-Coli is a toxic food-borne bacteria that typically incubates four to six days before striking victims with severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. Only one-percent of cases are fatal.
