991004 Burger King Announces Management Changes

October 2, 1999

Miami - Burger King Corporation announced the appointment of David Williams to the newly created role of President of Global Restaurant Transformation, signaling the company's commitment to the radical initiatives launched at its convention in April. Andre Lacroix will be promoted to President of the Europe, Middle East and African (EMA) Region and will join the Burger King Corporation Executive Committee, filling the position vacated by Williams. Both appointments report to Dennis Malamatinas, the CEO of Burger King Corporation and become effective Oct. 1, 1999.

In Williams' new role, he will be responsible for leading and delivering restaurant transformation in all markets, and designing and driving the cultural changes for Burger King that will help build the brand for the future. In addition to continuing his work on the Burger King Executive Committee, Williams will also become part of the Diageo Way Team. This group, chaired by Pillsbury CEO Paul Walsh, is tasked with ensuring that the three key Diageo transformation initiatives -- performance management, building Diageo talent, and building brand excellence -- along with each company's transformation initiatives, are integrated in a strategic manner.

"Our customers have been very clear what they want from Burger King... consistent product quality, speed of service, menu variety, and a pleasant experience. We know also what it will take to deliver these attributes. Focusing senior level resources against this vitally important initiative will help ensure that our transformation plans deliver," said Dennis Malamatinas, CEO, Burger King Corporation.

Williams has been with Burger King Corporation for three years, most recently serving as President of EMA. In that role, he and his team led the successful turnaround in Europe and rejuvenated the brand in several of our key international markets. Under his leadership, the region was restored to profitability, gaining market share and developing a clear identity for the brand under the banner of great taste and the "Make Every Bite...Right!" initiative.

Lacroix has also been with the Burger King system for three years, beginning as the general manager of Burger King Germany and is widely credited for the turnaround in that market. One year ago, he assumed responsibility for all Northern European markets (Sweden, The Netherlands, Norway, Denmark & Switzerland). Most recently, he also assumed responsibility for Italy in launching the Burger King brand partnership with Autogrill.
