990506 A&W Introduces New Big Beef Hamburger

Farmington Hills, MI - A&W Restaurants, Inc., currently celebrating its 80th Anniversary, today rolled out a new Big Beef Hamburger at the company's franchise and corporate restaurants in Detroit and Madison, Wis. The official introduction took place during a taste testing for A&W Headquarters employees and the news media.

“America's love affair with the big beef burger continues,” explained Jim Buckley, A&W Restaurants director of marketing. “All our research says this is what our customers want.”

The new A&W quarter pound bacon cheeseburger will come with a toasted sesame-seed bun, bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato, onions, pickles, and mayonnaise plus A&W secret seasonings.

The new hamburger joins the A&W “All American menu” of hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, chicken sandwiches, the company's Signature A&W Draft Root Beer and Root Beer floats.

According to Buckley, the new product will be supported by local radio spots, print and point of purchase materials. The new Big Beef Burger will be available in 40 Southeastern Michigan restaurants and 13 units in Madison, Wis.

Founded in 1919, A&W Restaurants, this country's oldest franchise restaurant chain, currently has nearly 1,000 restaurants in 46 United States and 17 foreign countries.
