March 23, 1999

Washington - Sales of U.S. pork and beef to South Korea would be eligible for short-term export credits under a tentative agreement. Chris Goldthwait, USDA general sales manager, said the agreement, reached last week, included pork and meat.

South Korean officials announced agreement at the end of last week on the mix of commodities in the $1 billion package. Some $90 million was alloted for meats.

The South Koreans and Goldthwait said a government credit assurance was to be issued shortly to finalize the pact.
