990376 Colorado Slaughter House Shutting Down

Ignacio, CO - The only USDA-certified slaughter house and processing plant in southwest Colorado is closing down at the end of the month. That means ranchers will have to transport animals to Utah or New Mexico for federal inspection. The Shur-Valu cattle, hog and sheep processing plant in Ignacio says it's shutting down because of labor shortages... and rising expenses. There are other processing plants in southwestern Colorado, but none are U-S-D-A certified.
