990328 Thorn Apple Valley Closing Arkansas Plant

Forrest City, AR - Thorn Apple Valley, a luncheon meat packaging plant in Forrest City, has announced plans to close. Forrest City will lose nearly 400 jobs in the move. The plant had temporarily closed some months ago when Listeria, a potentially deadly bacteria, was found in some products. The closure cost the company more than 12-Million dollars and forced it into bankruptcy. A Forrest City Chamber of Commerce representative says the city is already looking to replace the company.
