990315 USDA Subsidizes 46 Tons Frozen Poultry to Mideast

March 5, 1999

Washington - The U.S. Agriculture Department subsidized its first frozen poultry export sale in nearly eight months.

The department awarded a subsidy of $600 per ton to American Manufacturing and Marketing Association for a sale of 46 tonnes of frozen poultry to unspecified countries in the Middle East. The total subsidy was $27,600.

It was the first subsidized poultry sale under the department's Export Enhancement Program since July 18.

Mideast countries have an allocation to buy up to another 18,664 tonnes of frozen poultry under EEP.

That is the only currently active allocation under the program, which has been used in the past to subsidize wheat, vegetable oil and other commodity exports.
