OXFORD, NC - While North Carolina produces more turkeys than any other state in the nation, some farmers hope brave diners will try what's being called “the other red meat” this Thanksgiving... OSTRICH. Annette Meyers, former president of the North Carolina Ostrich Breeders Association, says it tastes like beef. She also says the seven-foot-tall, 350-pound bird is low in fat, cholesterol, and higher in protein than beef, pork, or chicken. Meyers says there are nearly 350 ostrich breeder farms in the state.
