981122 Winn-Dixie Meat Plant Open Again After Contamination

November 18, 1998

Madison, FL - Winn-Dixie has started producing smoked meats again at a company-owned processing plant after receiving the approval of federal inspectors. The reopening of the Dixie Packers plant in Madison comes nearly two weeks after it was shut down in the wake of the discovery of potentially fatal bacteria in some Winn-Dixie deli products. Since the shutdown, the plant has been cleaned and inspected... but Winn-Dixie officials and Department of Agriculture inspectors never found the source of the bacteria.
