Texas - The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association says so many cattle were displaced in the flooding... that buyers should take extra steps to ensure that people trying to sell them really own the animals. Agriculture Commissioner Rick Perry says buyers should check brands, ear tags, and also check with clearinghouses set up around the flooded areas to identify lost cattle and return them to their owners. Perry says many ranchers are on the edge of ruin due to the flooding, and returning the cattle which are rightfully theirs may make the difference between solvency and bankruptcy.
