980941 Russian Crisis Hurts Maryland

Maryland - The Russian financial crisis is taking a big bite out of Maryland poultry exports. They've plunged as much as 50% in recent weeks. There have been reports that refrigerated shipments of chicken headed for Russia are being turned back at sea because of fears over the declining value of the ruble. State agriculture officials say the value of poultry exports from Maryland was 90 million dollars last year... and up to 25-percent of that volume went to Russia. Russia is the largest single market for Maryland's chicken exports.
