980825 Swiss American Sausage Continues Production Despite Fire

San Francisco, CA - Swiss American Sausage Company, a division of Provena Foods, announced that it is continuing full production following a fire that destroyed its manufacturing facility in San Francisco on, August 1.

Swiss American produces pepperoni, salami, sausage and other meat products for commercial use, primarily for the pizza industry nationwide.

According to Theodore Arena, president of Swiss American, the company has made provisions to continue to supply its customers and meet demand for orders until a new 90,000-square-foot manufacturing plant, already under construction, is completed early next year in Lathrop, CA.

Swiss American is currently headquartered at its second building, a slicing, packing and distribution facility, at 2640 Newhall Ave. in San Francisco. The company processed meat products in a 48,000-square- foot plant at 35 Williams Ave. in San Francisco since 1956, until destroyed by last week's fire. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, although fire officials are discounting arson.
