Broadway, VA - James L. Keeler, President and Chief Executive Officer of WLR Foods, Inc., announced that subsidiary Wampler Foods, Inc. has been named KFC's 1997 Poultry Supplier of the Year. KFC representatives presented the award on July 17 at Wampler Foods' Moorefield, West Virginia plant.
The Poultry Supplier of the Year award is the highest honor given by KFC's Poultry Group, and is their most prestigious award.
KFC's Poultry Supplier of the Year award is determined through their supplier evaluation program. KFC's Quality and Supply Chain Management Groups conduct an objective review of suppliers' operations, including food safety, quality, service, price, on - time delivery of all products, and customer satisfaction.
After presenting the Poultry Supplier of the Year award, representatives from KFC's Quality Group presented the Championship Marination Award to Wampler Foods' Moorefield plant. KFC held a contest among its 35 fresh poultry suppliers to determine the best supplier in producing injection - marinated products for KFC stores. Suppliers were judged on adherence to timelines and ability to deliver quality product. Wampler Foods was one of only four suppliers to receive this award.
WLR Foods is a fully integrated provider of high quality turkey and chicken products primarily under the Wampler Foods brand. It is nationally ranked as the seventh largest poultry processor by sales volume and is an international leader in poultry exports.
