980501 A & W Restaurants Introduce Crispy Chicken Strips With Help From Blondie

Farmington Hills, MI - A & W Restaurants, Inc., begins a two month promotion beginning Friday, May 1, 1998 for new “Crispy Chicken Strips.” The strips are breaded whole muscle chicken breast strips, served three to a serving for adults and two for children. Customers can choose between one of four available sauces: BBQ, ranch, honey mustard, and sweet and sour.

Blondie, of comic strip fame and A & W's new spokesperson, will introduce the new strips in ad and in- house print materials.

“Real chicken is becoming the preferred way customers want these products,” noted Jim Buckley, director of marketing. “This roll-out now puts three different and unique chicken products in A & W Restaurants -- grilled chicken sandwich, crispy chicken sandwich and the new crispy strips. All real chicken and the best available.”

Founded in 1919, A & W Restaurants currently has nearly 1000 units in 46 United States and 16 foreign countries. The core menu consists of hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, A & W Draft Root Beer and root beer floats.
