980414 Aarow Environmental Group Tackles Poultry/Pork Waste Problems

April 1, 1998

Springdale, AR - "For years the poultry and hog industries have been struggling to find a solution to the adverse effects of animal waste, and now we can help," reports Stan Sisemore, President Aarow Environmental Group.

After 15 months of development, Aarow Environmental Group announced the completion of an Animal Waste Management system. The AWM is a new development in the fight against the harmful effects of manure in the poultry and pork farming regions of the U.S. which could potentially offer a solution to the waste situation. The main constituents of point-source and non-point-source pollution associated with animal waste are:

BACTERIA: Poultry and hog waste contain several strains of bacteria including some which are pathogenic. Bacteria is the chief source of odor surrounding animal waste. The patented AWM employs technology which will kill the bacteria and will, conversely, greatly reduce the odor.

NITRATES AND PHOSPHATES: All living things need nitrogen and phosphorous however, when in excess these nutrients can have an adverse effect on aquatic habitat due to eutrophication and lead to polluted water. When growers are forced to spread their excess manure over fields, the nutrients can exceed safe levels. On several occasions this has led to contaminated drinking water, leaving thousands of people without water for days.

"By enabling our customers to effectively manage animal waste, the AWM will help improve water quality, reduce offensive odors and protect the environment," according to Jeff Martin, Vice President of Aarow Environmental Group.

Aarow will begin taking orders for their Animal Waste Management system in April. The AWM has a 25,000 gallon per day capacity. Complete Waste Management systems, comprised of multiple AWM units, are designed for use by hog and poultry growers. The cost of each unit will be determined by individual applications, but is expected to be less than $100,000 for nearly all units. Preliminary AWM revenue projections for 1998 exceed one million dollars, according to company representatives.

Headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas, Aarow has been under completely new management since early '97. "When I gained control, this company was completely dormant with little revenue or direction, since that time we have focused mainly on product-service development," explains Stan Sisemore. "Aarow is now in a position to offer a handful of well needed products and services, all of which address separate environmental issues," added Sisemore.
