The Financial Crisis:
Let's Go to the Video Tape!

December 17, 2008

What we need in politics today is what we now have in sports -- the Instant Replay. Consider the following:

In 2004:

Congress held hearings on the financial stability of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Capital Hill big shots Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi, along with a dozen others, declared that "nothing" is wrong with Fannie or Freddie and that warnings from regulators were "unfounded".

In 2008:

Frank & Pelosi say they had "no idea" Fannie and Freddie had "any" problems. They said the crisis "snuck up" on them and that the financial crisis is the fault of the Bush administration.

We need to see the replay! And we have it! Click the screen at the bottom of this story and see for yourself.

It is supposed to be the job of a Free Press to expose the facts. But it has not. What's going on? Can it be that the Press is part of this vast cover-up?

Isn't it funny that Capital Hill "Leaders" can say one thing in 2004 and then deny they said it in 2008 -- and get away with it? There's only one way for this to happen:  The Press has DECIDED to suppress this information. That's bad enough, but even more scary is the next question... WHY?

We need Instant Replay like they have in sports. Let's run the video tape and see what they REALLY said and HEARD. The following tape shows Congressional hearings in 2004 and what Pelosi says today.

The tape clearly shows that Frank and Pelosi were warned that a crisis was brewing. The facts show that Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi were not only WARNED about the problem, but chose to ignore clear warnings.

This tape shows that THEY were the CAUSE of the financial meltdown by ignoring clear evidence that Fannie and Freddie were in trouble.

This tape also proves that THEY and the PRESS are now attempting to cover up their errors by suppressing this story.

Let's Go to the Video Tape:

Global Warming Mass Hysteria?
December 17, 2008

It is truly amazing that radical environmentalists have been able to create whole new problems that didn't even exist ten years ago. This notion that man is somehow responsible for "Global Warming" is both a new and old story. In fact, the story is hundreds of thousands of years old.

Note that "Global Warming" existed 20,000 years ago -- like the period of "warming" when the polar ice caps receded from New York to the North Pole. "Global Warming" existed 100,000 years ago and 400,000 years ago.

But wait! Man wasn't around during those periods of global warming. If Man wasn't around, what caused it?

Let's take a look at the record books.

In the 1500s the world was in the middle of the "Little Ice Age". Click the link and see what we mean. If Al Gore was around in the 1500s, he might be crying about Global Cooling. And if Al Gore was around in the 1700s, the world was already "warming" from the Little Ice Age. In other words, "Global Warming" was taking place 200 years before the first oil well was drilled.

But wait, Al Gore says man's alarming use to oil and gas is responsible.

The simple fact, Mr. Gore, is that YOU are WRONG!

Check the chart below. It details worldwide temperatures over the last 400,000 years (yes 400 thousand). See if you note a pattern: temperatures went up, then down, then up, then down, then up ,then down. Now they are gong up...what will happen next?

This is a chart of variations in temperature, CO2, and dust from the
Vostok ice core over the last 400,000 years. Source:
Wikipedia

Why not get ALL the facts before destroying our economy by prohibiting oil exploration, capping coal plants and passing all these wacky environmental laws?

Talk about Extremism and Mass hysteria!

You just can't get more extreme than a radical environmentalist who's life will crumble at the first sign that Man is NOT responsible for rising temperatures.

Let's face it all you Greenies out there. Science shows that world temperatures change with or without Man's involvement. Get over it!

 Here's what 31,000 Scientists say
 about Global Warming:

"There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth."

Want to know who these scientists are, click below:

http://www.petitionproject.org/

BTW...The Global Warming nuts use the "carbon footprint" as a "measure of the impact that human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide". Apparently, they don't like carbon dioxide.

Do plants get a say in all this?

Last I heard, plants take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. Al Gore is going to have to measure how much hot air he's put into the atmosphere and then cut a carbon offset check -- a big check!

What Ever Happened to $5.00 Gas?
December 17, 2008

Perhaps "Supply and Demand" DOES work?

The next time you listen to a bunch of "experts" on TV, remember what they were saying last summer:  "We all need to get ready because gasoline will cost over $5.00 a gallon this winter. And home heating oil prices will be just as bad".

So what happened?

Easy. The economy slowed down and demand plummeted as Americans CUT their oil consumption by 5%. As oil demand went down, so did prices.

This used to be called the "law of supply and demand". It is also an example of the "free market" affecting prices.

  • Oil prices did NOT drop because of government action.

  • Oil prices did NOT drop because America opened new  oil fields.

  • Oil prices did NOT drop because Obama became president.

  • Oil prices did NOT drop because of increased production.

Oil prices went down because demand went down. Period!

Capital Hill doesn't want you to make the connection between lower prices and the "free market". For some reason, liberal socialists hate the word "free". Why? Because a FREE market means we don't need THEM!

THEY want to be responsible for everything good. Hence they will NOT remind you that prices went down "on their own".

As for the EXPERTS? This is just another lesson that all those "experts" on the "news" may not be experts at all.

NOTE: When I went to school, "Supply and Demand" was referred to as a "LAW". In other words, it was a constant. When was the last time you heard a liberal socialist use the term "Law of Supply and demand"?

How's that Windmill Going to Heat My Home?
December 17, 2008

I was watching the the weekend "news" talk shows and some energy "expert" said the energy needs of the nation can be met by building more windmills in Texas.

You must be kidding me!

My house uses home heating OIL! I just upgraded my heating system and tried to convert to natural gas in an effort to divert my energy dollars from the Middle East back to America. I did not have enough room for the extra equipment a gas system required, so I upgraded my oil system to the most efficient system I could find.

But it still uses OIL! I am locked into oil to heat my house for the next 15-20 years! There's nothing I -- or millions of other Americans -- can do to change that fact.

So when is Capital Hill going to trash all this talk about windmills and actually think about solving our energy problem? Alternative energy talk does nothing but make Fascists Greenies happy. It does nothing to solve the problem.

It will take another 20 years for "alternatives" to have an impact on our energy use. That's fine, start the ball rolling now.

In the meantime:

  • Start drilling now;

  • Start drilling everywhere;

  • Keep American petro-dollars here.

Do any of the Greenies realize that we WON'T need a $750 billion stimulus package if we STOP sending that same amount of money to the Middle East EVERY  year?

Is there any Common Sense left?

Since When is a "FREE MARKET" Bad?
December 17, 2008

Have you noticed that Capital Hill now thinks a "free market" is BAD?

As our nation's financial institutions melt under the weigh of Capital Hill's sub-prime mortgage mess, the same Capital Hill snobs that caused the problem by OVER-REGULATION, now have the audacity to blame the problem on a LACK of REGULATION!

This is Mind-Boggling!

Capital Hill REGULATION FORCED banks to make BAD loans. Period. That's what caused the CRISIS.

Now they are running around saying the problem was caused by a lack of government regulation!

We can't let them get away with this obvious lie and cover-up!

They caused the problem and now they want YOU to believe THEY will FIX it.

Even Hollywood couldn't come up with a more preposterous plot. But here we are ELECTING and RE-ELECTING the very people that brought down our economy.

Take Action. Start talking to your family, friends and co-workers now! Let them know that government interference in business is responsible for the energy mess and the financial crisis.

Double-Speak is Officially Here!
December 17, 2008

What ever happened to the powerful and prideful words we once cherished here in America:

      1) Entrepreneur
      2) Successful
      3) Competitive

If you listen to the rhetoric of the lefties on Capital Hill, you will see that they've substituted a new set of words:

      1) Greedy
      2) Rich
      3) Corrupt

Take the following sentence that once described the American Dream:

"If you work hard as an entrepreneur and remain competitive, you will be successful".

Here's the new Capital Hill version:

"If you are greedy and corrupt you can become rich."  That used to be the definition of a drug dealer. Now it applies to everyone who's a business person! Unbelievable!

Capital Hill elitists do not feel there is any honor in being a successful entrepreneur or business owner. They HATE the concept that hard work and determination really can get you somewhere and can result in "personal success".

That flies in the face of their "big village" concept of "equality" for everyone. Being "successful" is now a BAD thing!

They are squarely on target for their final push to defeat the American Dream.

1) They are moving to define ALL business people as "corrupt".

2) They are moving to define all Rich people as exploiting their workers.

3) They are moving to define all those who haven't contributed to Greenpeace or reduced their Carbon Footprint as "greedy".

What's even more scary? They are getting away with it.

What are YOU going to do about it?

Wait. I Thought We Don't Need Small Business
December 17, 2008

Headline: "Idled Workers Occupy Factory in Chicago"

A small business in Chicago was forced to go out of business due to the Recession. Republic Windows and Doors' CEO said the company had "no choice but to shut our doors."

Republic had 200 employees.

Let's review our current economic situation:

1) The country needs jobs.
2) Capital Hill says business owners are the bad.
3) Capital Hill wants higher taxes on business.
4) This business closed because it can't make a "profit".

Oh my God... there's that dirty word: "Profit". Sorry to be so politically incorrect as to use the word "profit" in a discussion about economics.

How about some high school math? Ready?

200 X 0 = 0

200 workers at a plant with zero profit equals zero jobs!

Does "profit" have something to do with creating and maintaining jobs? I know that's a tough one for a socialist but I bet there are 200 workers in Chicago that wish their company was profitable.

So what was the Union's answer to help out?

They did NOT go to management and see if they could help the company remain profitable so it could stay in business. They called for workers to "occupy" the factory and demand severance and vacation pay.

If the company is broke, how do they get paid?

According to Capital Hill "logic", the company MUST pay.  This is not open for debate. Yet this small company will not get a bailout. The owner will have his house taken and his kids' education fund confiscated because his workers didn't get their paid vacations. Nice job Union leaders. Unemployment benefits must be pretty high in Chicago.

BTW... Capital Hill says it is "OK for people to default on their mortgage" because it is the Bank's fault. But the small business owner can't "default" even if it was government incompetence that brought down the economy.

Any lessons here? Sure. Business is always the bad guy and business will ALWAYS have two strikes against it.

Strike One is a 100-mph fastball by the Federal Government!

Strike Two is a low and outside curve by Organized Labor.

UPDATE: One of the Banks involved with the failed business in Chicago was embarrassed into paying the workers around $1300 each. The bank used some of its bailout money to make itself look good. The company is still out of business and the workers are still unemployed. That's government's idea of a bailout.

Socialized Medicine:
December 17, 2008

Liberals are always talking about Socialized Medicine here in America. They call it "universal health care". But what they always forget is that we already have socialized medicine here. It is called the Veterans Administration.

A recent headline in New York Newsday Reads:

"VA in New York slow on claims -- Almost a third of applications for veterans disability benefits handled by Manhattan office take at least six months to be processed"

Surprise! Surprise! Imagine that -- a Federal Government Bureaucracy taking six months to process an application.

BTW... Would you ever voluntarily send your loved one to the VA for serious treatment? Not too many people would. Don't get me wrong, people working at the VA do their best, but they're boss is the Federal  Government and it just doesn't work very well.

The same lack of care awaits us all if we ever socialize our medical system

PS: The Feds should scrap the VA all together and issue a Veterans Medical Benefits Card and let Veterans seek the best treatment they can find in the private sector. That would mean:

  • Better Care for Veterans;

  • Lower Cost to Tax Payers;

  • The Patient is in Control of His Care;

  • Free Care for Veterans;

  • The Feds can sell a few hundred billion dollars worth of prime real estate now used by the VA nationally!

Of course, this is far too logical. Therefore It won't happen.

National School Lunch Program:
December 17, 2008

A letter to the editor by Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy was interesting. It criticized the Federal School Lunch Program because kids today are too fat. Imagine that! The Federal Program to help feed undernourished children is now being criticized for feeding them TOO much! Government at its best!

Expensive Bureaucrats:
December 17, 2008

New York State is holding hearings on how to reduce the cost of education. They are proposing the consolidation of school districts to reduce overhead. Well what do you know, liberal New York State wants to cut down on administrative overhead.

An example of government waste and corruption can be seen on Long Island where 120 Superintendents administer the needs of 420,000 elementary and secondary school kids. That's one superintendent for every 3500 students.

New York City has ONE Chancellor to administer the needs of 410,000 kids. That's one superintendent for 410,000.

The impact on property taxes is staggering. For a home of equal value, property taxes in Queens County (in NYC) are one tenth (1/10 or 10%) of the taxes for a house in Nassau County (Long Island). Let's say that another way -- Long Island home owners pay 10 times as much in property taxes

Perhaps too many bureaucrats really does cost a lot!

We'll talk about 20 years of uninterrupted annual 10% teacher salary increases a bit later. Take a calculator to that one and see how many years it takes for salaries to double. Answer: every 7-1/2 years.
